Forty million Australians: the future of our biodiversity

Project Information

Project Summary

Australia’s biodiversity is under pressure from the combined effects of a rapidly growing human population, accelerating per capita natural resource use, and climate change. The project will provide the first quantitative evaluation of how Australia can expect its native species to be affected by future change. The work will use a combination of (a) retrospective analyses of time series of existing data sets from around the world, and (b) spatially and temporally explicit, hierarchical Bayesian models, to project change until at least 2050 under a range of future scenarios, all of which will be significantly influenced by climate change.
